Another New Bike!

7 02 2008

That’s right sports fans… due to an overwhelmingly positive response to my first Spot Brand Bike back in August (mostly by me) I’ve gone ahead and added another one to the stable… this time a mt. bike.

The above masterpiece is a Longboard 9 (made in Golden, CO), with incredible Spot steel frame, 1×9 drivetrain (1 chainring + 9 cogs = 9 gears), 29 inch wheels, and the next evolution of the F4 “Team” custom paint scheme. Amazingly light at 23.89 lbs!

The obviously unique aspect of this bike are the large wheels. Whereas most mt. bikes have 26″ wheels, these 29″ hoops roll over obstacles noticeably smoother, carry momentum better, and just feel darn faster! I’ve noticed no problems whatsoever with getting up to speed, and the bike is totally nimble and agile in tight situations which came as quite a pleasant surprise on my maiden voyage to Hall Ranch recently. The combination of Mavic Crossmax 29″ wheels/ hubs and the Hutchinson Python rubber, run tubeless, seems to be just the ticket for low rolling weight, excellent traction, and speed.

Other features of the bike include special “pimpin'” white touches, such as the Manitou Minute 100mm fork, Hayes Stroker disc brakes and calipers, Specialized Phenom SL saddle, Spank lock-on grips, and Crank Brothers Candy 2ti pedals in their newest color… white!

Further key components include SRAM XO shifter, X9 rear derailleur, Thompson stem and post, Race Face Deus cranks and riser bars, and Chris King headset.

Stay tuned for ride/ race reports in the coming months. A few more thumbnail pics: spot-shoot-2-6-08-002s.jpg spot-shoot-2-6-08-003s.jpg spot-shoot-2-6-08-004s.jpg spot-shoot-2-6-08-009s.jpg

Thanks Nick and Gavin at Spot and Zach at Sports Garage for their help in making this latest dream bike a reality!
